The Season begins with one shot!

"If I hit it to the right, it's a slice, if I hit it to the left, it's a hook, if I hit it straight, it's a miracle."
The 2015 golf season at Scott Lake officially opend last week on March 21st with the Closest to the Pin Contest. What began as a cold, cloudy, and windy day soon turned to a partly sunny, cold windy day.
first shot green view
The shot required a careful finesse over the corner of the tent frame with a sligh fade to the flagstick perched on the highest point of the practice green. Dan "The Senior Official" for the days event was ready with his Home Depot measuring tape. After a few shots, a helmut was offered for protection, but Dan being old school said he could duck better than the golfers could hit the ball.
taking their turn
The players lined up to take their turn. Part of the entry fees went to the a very worthy charity. Elves & More of West Michigan.
They purchase , assemble and distribute bicycles to a Grand Rapids neighborhood each year.

There were over 280 shots taken that afternoon and Harvey was the winner at 9 inches from the hole. His buddy Bob hit the highlight shot of the day by striking a small sign post and just missing a window in the banquet room building. Five winners from the day and Harvey was a double dipper by placing first and fifth.

The April Sunshine Creates Smiles

"I can't find my clubs, I can't find my shoes! It must be time for golf league to start."
April Sunshine for the middle part of the month brought out golfers with big smiles.

The sun creeps up so low in April we were able to get some great shots of the morning dew, a little fog and a rising sun. Birds are chirping and building their nestsl.

Saint's Suit Up for Spring Snow, Wind, and Rain

"There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing."
The Aquinas Saints Women's Golf Team has already started and finished their spring season. The Saints had seven tournament rounds over the course of three weeks in April. Although there was a stretch of good weather, the tournament rounds only brought wind, rain, and snow for the ladies. The ladies headed out to the course with as many layers as they could swing in and plenty of handwarmers.
Early spring golf challenges the players to mentally and physically battle the elements. The Saints were able to battle the high winds and shoot their season low at Arbor Trace in Marion, IN, home of the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats. The ladies came in with a team total of 338 with the top three players firing 74, 83, 83.

The Saints finished up their season in Ft. Wayne at Indiana Tech for the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championship. This two day 54 hole tournament brought hurricane force winds, rain, and sleet. The ladies toughed it out and finished 6th in the conference.
The Saint Squad looks forward to returning to Scott Lake in the fall for the 2015/16 season.
